Molasses Cookies
by Patty Ann McCulley, Camillus, NY In Favorite Recipes of America, Desserts, 1968.
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup molasses mixed with 1 teaspoon soda
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk(buttermilk) mixed with 1 teaspoon soda
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy; add eggs and molasses-soda mixture. Sift dry ingredients together; add alternately with buttermilk-soda mixture. Drop by teaspoons on greased baking. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes. Yield: 5-6 dozen cookies.
Personal note from Patty: This recipe won a blue ribbon at the New York State Fair.
