This and that

I took this picture Sunday night after church.  I thought it looked pretty cool with the clouds highlighted by the moon.   As a matter of fact it put me in mind of how God is always watching.

Over the weekend, I went on a shop hop with two of my quilting friends.  I forgot my camera so I don't have pics of the shops we visited but I did come back with some goodies.

Each shop gave away door prizes for visiting and then I had to buy some stuff too.  :)
The top row, in the picture below, has the giveaway items and the bottom row has what was bought.

Each shop sold a block/patterns and if you buy one from each shop, you then have all the blocks for a quilt.  I took some pictures of quilts using the blocks in some of the shops with my phone.  They aren't the best pictures but you get an idea of the fabrics used and the block patterns.

I was in Ft. Smith this evening and stopped by a second hand store before I came home.  I found this cute little music box and thought it would go nicely in my sewing room.

It is very humid this evening.  A sure sign rain is on the way.

Until next time,

Sonia

Oh My!...

I went to my fabric cabinet to get scraps for a few English paper pieced flowers. I opened the cabinet, pulled out a tote filled with fabric scraps, opened it up to find I had put felt material in it and had moved the fabric scraps to another tote.... Oh my!  I searched and didn't find them.  I was on the phone with my Mom and told her it was going to take me longer to find the fabric scraps than it would take to hand sew the flowers.

After I found the fabric scraps, in a bigger tote than the previous one, I decided to make a list of where everything is in my cabinet.

So, now that I have that addressed I can focus on the paper pieced flowers.  They will be appliqued to the small quilt I've been working on.

I'm in the middle of rearranging my sewing room too.  I have moved the t.v. and the small cabinet it was sitting on out of the room and moved the Yarn dresser and the quilt rack.  Now I need to move the sewing tables.  I plan to keep them on the same side of the room but will rotate them so that lengthwise they will be going north/south instead of east/west like they are now.  By rotating the tables in the new position I will be able to have both of my active sewing machines set up at all times and I think I will have room for my serger too.  This will create a more efficient and productive environment.

I've said it before and I'm going to say it again.  I'm so glad Spring is here.  :)

There are blooms everywhere.  All the daffodils in my flower bed are now bloomed.  I think the reason I like them so much is each year when they bloom to new life, it makes me think of how my life became new when I trusted in Jesus Christ as my Savior.

Here are some shots I've taken in the past few days.  The days have been overcast so the color of the flowers and trees blooming gave the gray days some cheer.  :)

this stem was laid over, so I cut it and put it in some water in this little bottle.

Creepy crawling things...

You know how I'm always amazed at the beauty of God's creation?  Well that goes for the creepy crawling things too.  :)

Here are some pics I caught during this past week.  Everything from a beautiful sunset to spider webs.

I also worked on a small project for my car.

Attack of the earthworms!

Spiders everywhere!  these were all over the bushes.

I usually have something hanging from my rear view mirror in my car.  Just as recent as last week, I had a stained glass cross hanging from it, but the cross broke.  So I went to my bead and craft supplies and found this stained glass angel I've had for several years.  It only had the pale read beads and a cross on the front.  So I added blue and red Swarovski crystal beads and smaller yellow beads.  Then I added jingle charms and another cross on the back of the angel.

 That's it for now.

Wishing you all a beautiful week!

Focus

Who's ready for Spring?

I sure am, thus the change to my blog background.

I knew I was going to have very long week, while walking up the stairs at work this morning thinking "Thank the Lord it's Friday".

"Heavenly Father, help me through this week, help me to keep my days in order, help me to stay focused on the things at hand.  Thank You for the help You have provided in the past, present and future.  I ask this in Jesus's name, Amen!"

Until next time,

Yeah... think I'll wait...

I woke up this morning and what did I see,
A lot road warnings screaming at me,
Very dangerous drive!
Slick roads!
If you're out and about, go slow!
So I peaked outside and decided to say,
"I think I'll go in late today".

Yeah... think I'll wait...

The good news is, it's suppose to start melting by mid morning and then we have sunshine and temps rising for the next week.  Yes!

I just went outside and took these pics.   The sun is rising and when I stepped out I heard a lot of bird chatter.  I found them high in a tree close to the house.

Be safe and have a great day!

Warm and Safe

As the snow falls, I'm glad I'm dry and warm and at home.  I took a half day of vacation this afternoon and got home before the yucky stuff started moving in.

My afternoon?  ... got a good nap in.
I told in my last blog that I'm doing the Daniel diet and last night I was tired of steamed veggies, bean burgers, salads without ranch dressing, etc.  So I got a big pot, some vegetables and threw together a soup.  It turned out pretty good and I can see it being used off the Daniel diet as well.

Here's what I did.

My D.D. Vegetable Soup
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • Small hand full of baby carrots cut in thirds
  • ¼ of a small cabbage, chopped
  • ¼ of an onion, chopped
  • ¼ of a jalapeño, chopped, if you want it spicier use more pepper (can use other pepper)
  • 1 can of corn (15 oz.), drained and rinsed
  • 1 can of beans (15 oz.), drained and rinsed (can use pinto, chili, black or navy beans)
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes (15 oz.)
  • 1-2 dashes of Greek seasoning
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. chili powder
  • ½ tsp. cumin
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil

Put olive oil in big pot along with chopped onion, pepper, carrots, potatoes, and cabbage.  Add a couple dashes of Greek seasoning.   Cook for a few minutes over medium heat, stirring often.  Add the corn, beans, tomatoes, other seasonings and water.  Mix well.  Bring to a boil and cook until potatoes and carrots are tender.

If you are not doing the Daniel fast, you can change this soup up by adding cooked chopped chicken, or ground beef, macaroni or rice.

Stay warm and stay safe.

Hugs,
Sonia
