Bread, Veggies, and a little duck tape...

I woke up hungry this morning so I baked a skillet of biscuits.  They were yummy with butter and red plum jelly along with a cup of hot coffee.  It was a pretty good way to start the day.

My husband was outside, so I went out to check on him.  It was a good morning to be out.  He was weeding the two raised beds we use for the vegetable garden.  It is in the early stage and not a lot is growing yet but I was able to get a picture of new tomatoes, Swiss chard and green onions that have come up.

I've mentioned the green carpet in my sewing room and how it is a chore to keep it clean of threads and such.

I can't afford to pull the carpet up and put down tile at this time but I'm tired of the battle between carpet and threads, pins, etc.  So I bought two packs of the foam tiles and laid them down on top of the carpet.  This will make clean up easier and will be more comfy for my morning exercise routine.

There were several edge pieces left over.

So I set them out in a pattern, flipped them over and duck taped the backside, then took an X-Acto knife and very carefully trimmed the edges to the best of my ability...  

Anyway, I made a mat to put down where I stand to cut fabric.
It measures 12.25" x 22".

Overcoming a glitch...

The first signs of our veggie garden are beginning to show.  My husband started seeds for the garden and today we noticed they are up and have vented the top of the seed starter tray.

We have cabbage and iceberg lettuce.

The beets and basil have started too.

I think they will do well.

I was needing a single vase a week or two ago and didn't have one.  I was at a flea market last week and found this pretty vintage milk glass bud vase.  It is diamond cut in the pineapple pattern.  

I finally finished one of the small quilts I've been working on.  It didn't happen without a glitch though.  Here's the quilt finished.

Here's the glitch.  I had to stop and have some repair done on my machine.  I was sewing along and then the casing that holds the needle just dropped out of the machine.  

Thankfully my needle was not broke or bent, amazingly.

So that's Monday for me.  It started good, had a glitch, then ended good.  

Isn't that how life goes?

Everything is going along good, then a glitch happens.  How you overcome that glitch depends on how you face it.  In the case of my sewing machine, I turned to my husband.  I have never had my machine do anything like it.  He repaired it, and showed me what I need to do if it ever happens again.  I am now prepared  with the knowledge and the tool to take care of it next time.   

But what about bigger things in life?  How do you overcome glitches then?  I personally rely on my relationship with God.  I search my heart and pray asking God to reveal what I should do, and at some point, either through discernment or Scripture, I know what needs to be done or what to expect next.  These verses sum it up nicely.

Psalm 16:8-11 (NIV) 

I keep my eyes always on the LORD.  With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.  Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because You will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will You let Your faithful one see decay.  You make known to me the path of life, You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.

Pretty...

Hello, thought I'd share my flower garden with you.  The Irises have started blooming and the Hostas are coming up.

David cut some of the irises and I put them in a glass mug.  They make a pretty bouquet for the table.

A small visitor rode in on the yellow iris.

Needless to say he is no longer in the house.  :)

Changing Winds...

Do you ever have the feeling of changing winds in your life?

I do.   The last time I had that feeling was a few weeks before my last job position was eliminated.

I have that feeling again, only this time it is not with my job.

I've had this feeling for a few months, but it has gotten stronger over the past two weeks.   The Lord is preparing me for something and whatever it is, I'm cool with it, because essentially it is not about me but about God and living my life in His will the best I can.

The latest from the garden.

We started Vacation Bible School tonight.

   

We had 108 students for our first night and I thought that was an awesome way to start the week.  We will be having VBS through Wednesday.   Tonight is the only night that I am able to participate the full 2 1/2 hours of service as my job will have me going in late the rest of the week.   

We are teaching on 2 Timothy 1:7 and using the story of Paul as an example of how with God all things are possible and we can face anything.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

As the thunder rolled...

As the thunder rolled and the rain poured hard on the roof, I decided to spend my lunch at my desk and work on my blog.  It seems with my new work schedule it is harder for me to find time to write and share with you.  I truly miss it and it weighs on my mind and will until I figure out what I need to do to get back on track.

I trust you had an enjoyable Memorial weekend.  Both of my kids were home on Monday, so we all went to Silver Dollar City and enjoyed the day.

 I go mostly for shopping and enjoying the music and atmosphere.  I always want to bring something home and I did this time.

We took the "Pig Trail", Hwy 23.  We left early and didn't have any trouble with traffic or finding a good parking place.

I can't get through a Memorial Day weekend without changing the decor in my home.  So, my patriotic stuff came out and will be up through Labor day; then I will change it all out for the fall season.

The last time I wrote, I mentioned having to sew a door prize for the upcoming Quilt Congress.  Here's what I did.


It's a checker set with a quilted checker board and crocheted checkers.  I figure it will go to a little girl and if she doesn't like to play checkers she can use the checker board for a dolly blanket or a table topper of her tea party.  The crocheted checkers can be pillows for her barbie dolls.

The veggie garden is coming along.  We've been getting green onions and radishes out of it and have a few squash coming on, along with tomatoes and peppers.

The flower garden is coming along nicely too.   All my roses are blooming and the lilies all have blooms ready to open.  We've had a couple of surprises.  David had planted some rose seeds, he had harvested from one of the rose bushes last year.  He planted them in a pot, not knowing if they would come up.  They did!  So he is going to transplant them in the garden.  We also had a hanging pot of petunias last year and they died off.  I kept the pot knowing I would use it for another hanging plant, well.... there are petunias growing in it again.  They came up voluntarily from last year's plant.  I didn't know they would do that.  Just goes to show, you never stop learning.

School's Out!  The official kickoff of summer vacation.

Beautiful so far...

This weekend has been beautiful so far.

To kick the weekend off, we played put-put golf last night.
 It was a lot of fun.


We finished up with arcade and pinball games.

I think we are past any hard cold snap and the garden has been started.

Today basil, oregano, heirloom tomatoes and peppers were planted.

We will plant seeds too.   Here are some seeds we have so far.

David bought a pretty plant to go in the flower bed.  It is a Dianthus.


My mini rose has a lot of red leaves on it, I think it is going to bloom beautifully, later on.



I also have seeds that will be planted in the flower bed.

I came across straight pins with no point today, as I pinned fabric pieces together for the log cabin quilt.

The batch of pins I'm using has had several in it.

The bad thing is I don't notice them until I try to pin the fabric.  

When I find them I set them aside and then put them in a container I have for bent or broken pins and needles; or in the case of these blunt pins, toss them in the trash.

I tried a new brownie mix today.  

 It was a cream cheese swirl brownie mix.  

They smelled yummy cooking and tasted yummy.   

I was given a Amish bread starter earlier this week.  I will have to bake it and divide it tomorrow (Sunday).   I'm thinking of making an Amish Friendship bread with it.  I will share the recipe when I bake it up.   

I read earlier today that you can freeze the starter in 1 cup increments for later use.  I'm planning on doing that, as I'm having trouble finding takers to pass the starter on to.

Thinking of the Amish Friendship bread I found this poem to share with you.
