Howling and Singing

I missed my morning time in the Scriptures because I wasn't focused and was running late. So I took my Bible to work with me to read on my lunch break.

As I sat in my car, eating my lunch, rain gently fell giving a rhythmic beat on top of my car and I enjoyed watching a few pretty little birds play in the rain.

The rain eventually stopped and I lowered the car windows to let the cool breeze blow in.  As I read my Bible, I heard all kinds of birds singing and chattering among themselves.  I even heard what sounded like an owl hooting.  It was very peaceful.

Then the blare of an ambulance's siren began to wail as it raced down the street that runs along the parking lot where I was parked.  The dogs in the surrounding neighborhood began to howl and they sounded so sorrowful as if they knew something bad had happened.

I said a quick prayer for the emergency response crew and the people they were going to help.

As the wail of the sirens faded the dogs stopped howling, I started writing all this down on paper and the birds continued to sing.

Thursday Favorite

As I write, the music from the Phantom of the Opera fills the air.

Our satellite system is down, but my daughter has plenty of movies, so I suggested we watch one and she picked the Phantom of the Opera.

Spending time with my daughter enjoying the "Phantom of the Opera 25th anniversary at Royal Albert Hall".  That is my favorite for this Thursday.

Thursday Favorite

I took this picture late yesterday around 6:30 p.m.  It was a blessing to see for just a few moments.

It is my favorite for this week.  :)

Thursday Favorite

One of my favorite things, something I don't get to do much, is to spend time with my son or my daughter or both over a game. Playing anything from a game on a game system or a board game.

Earlier in the week Audre and I played a couple of board games.  She won both.  :)

Thursday Favorite

Just thought I'd share my favorite things or this week.

One day this week we had fog like you wouldn't believe.  On the way to work, it was so foggy I couldn't see 10 feet in front of me.  I called my husband and asked him to take a photo for me. It was still dark, so he took this photo mid-morning.  The fog hung around for quite a while.

On the way home one day, the moon was in the eastern sky and the craters were the same color as the sky, as if the sky was shining through it.  So I took this picture when I got home.

This is one of the first paintings my husband did. He painted this for my parents.  I think it is pretty.

He has painted other pictures since and I think he is getting better with each new painting.

Thursday Favorite

I have thought about Thursday Favorite throughout the day and it was hard for me to decide what to write about, so I opted to write about all that came to me today and brought a smile to my face.

Let me begin with ice.

...ice, seriously?

I know... I complain about the ice and totally dislike it for making road trips hazardous and for taking out the electricity when a tree limb is over laden with ice, braking and taking out a power line.  But, as I drove to work this morning, the sun was hitting the ice on the tree branches so that they glistened like crystal.  It was as if I was driving through a crystal forest.  Then, later in the morning, snow started falling and I thought how pretty it looked as it floated on the wind.  There is always, it seems, something beautiful to see in nature.  Like the small flock of red birds that took flight as I drew near on the way home this evening.

Then, something even better happened.  I was shown pictures of a beautiful baby boy.  One of the young ladies I work with gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Tuesday.  His is a doll!

Have you ever noticed how the atmosphere in a room changes when a newborn is brought in or pictures of the newborn is presented?  Soft exclamations of "ooh and ah" and "how precious" are heard by those close by or excited exclamations of "oh how cute!" heard down the hall to another office, bringing out others to see the preciousness being exclaimed about.

It's those little moments, those subtle nuances that touch our daily lives, we need to cherish and keep close to the heart, for without them our life would be bleak indeed.

Sonia

Thursday Favorite

Wow, what a week!

We had a warm weekend, just a teaser really... then a bitter cold week.  I'm thankful we were spared from the ice and snow here in Arkansas, but my heart goes out to those who are further south who got caught in it.  I'm from the deep south and most of my family is there and we are just not created for this cold weather business.  That's all there is to it.  :)

I thought it was pretty awesome though, that baby Grace was born in the midst of all the ice chaos on the interstates.  I'm sure all those involved will never forget that moment in time.

On Wednesday nights, I work with 1st - 6th grade children in the AWANA program.  Talk about good medicine!

Spending time with the kids, going over God's Word and listening to them as they learn scripture and the meaning of the scriptures, is what I need in the middle of the week.  If I'm feeling stressed from work or low in spirit, just an hour or so with the kids always relieves the stress and cheers me up.  I think they have a good time too.

Last night one of the girls gave out thank you cards.  Her lesson was on showing others you care.  I thought it was very sweet of her.  Here is the card she gave me.

I think the rainbow is pretty on the purple background and handmade cards are so special.  Don't you think?

I still have every handmade card, picture or project my two children have given me over the years.  You can't beat that.  It is something created with their hands, their thoughts and their heart.

Warm hugs,
Sonia
