Pretty Things...

As you know, I love flowers and pretty plants.   

There is a Prim Rose, or at least I think that is what it is, that grows in one of the flower beds at the front office entrance at work.  It is a beautiful plant.  

Yesterday I took a clipping off of it and stuck it in a cup of water.  I hope that it will grow roots so that I can grow it at home.  If it doesn't grow roots, it is still a pretty addition of color to my cubicle for the time. :)  

Isn't it pretty?

In the Coffin...

Hello,
Hope this finds you doing well and enjoying the weekend. :)

My family and I went to Silver Dollar City yesterday and had an enjoyable time.  I tried to get pics of the kids on some of the rides but was only able to get one and my daughter isn't very visible.


Here is the ride they were on.

This thing was spinning and moving fast, like most of the rides, so I feel lucky to have gotten this one. :)




I got Audre in the coffin...

then I got David in the coffin...

Notice, Josh did not stick around for the coffin. :)



Then a gentleman, came along and took a picture of me and David in the coffin together...


Then David coaxed me into letting him get a pic of me alone... I really hate having my picture taken but several years ago, David told me that if I were to die, my kids wouldn't have a picture of me because I refused to take pictures.  That stuck with me, so I make myself cooperate.


The first one he took, caught me in my natural state,  talking with my hands...







So, I shut my mouth and held my hands so he could take another.  :)


It was a fun day but we were all tired when we finally got home last night, so today was a day of mostly resting for three of us.  My son had to work today, so he didn't get much rest.

 


I worked on my patriotic angel wall hanging, for my cubicle, today and finished it.

Here is a new Granny block I have learned to crochet.  I'm making a baby afghan using this block.

I almost have the patriotic lap quilt, I've been working on done.  I will post a pic of it later this weekend.


I guess that's all I have tonight.

New Blooms In My Garden

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

 

My husband picked squash and peppers from the veggie garden this week.  So my recipe is using some of the veggies.    

Squash Casserole

4 cups sliced squash

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup chopped green pepper

1 cylinder of crushed saltine crackers

1 cup shredded 4 cheese mix

2 eggs, beaten

3/4 cup milk

1/4 cup butter, melted

1 teaspoon salt

ground black pepper to taste

2 tablespoons butter

1. Preheat oven to 400° F.
2. Place squash, onion and peppers in a large skillet over medium heat.  Pour in a small amount of water, cover and cook until the squash is tender, about 10 minutes.  Drain well and place in a large bowl.
3. In a separate bowl, mix cracker crumbs and cheese.  Mix half of cracker/cheese mix with the squash.
4. In a small bowl mix milk and eggs together.  Add to squash/cracker/cheese mix.  Stir in melted butter and season with salt and pepper. 
5. Spread into a 9x13 baking dish.  Sprinkle with remaining cracker/cheese mix and dollop with the 2 tablespoons of butter.
6. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until lightly browned.

David made a bench for the front, out of some recycled wood from my daughter's room.  Here's a pick, I took it before it was all cleaned up from saw dust and such, but I think it turned out nice.

As the weekend rolls around and the grills are fired up, remember why you have the freedom to grill and have fellowship with family and friends.    Remember those who gave willingly and sacrificed their life for freedom.

I think I'm caught up now... I'm working on a small patriotic angel wall hanging for my cubicle and hope I get it done this weekend.   I hope to have pics of that and a lap quilt to show soon.

Poor Lil' Stress Buddy

Hope this finds you doing well this week.

Today, my little stress buddy at work finally fell under pressure.  Yes the little thing has been used and abused by several in the department.  :)

Where its spines stuck out evenly all around its form, they are now collapsed in front and back.   It will be replaced soon, but will remain hanging in my cubicle, in honor of the service it rendered.  :)

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Today David harvested some Swiss chard and green peppers from his garden.

So my recipe this week includes the Swiss chard.

Swiss Chard Bow Ties

Bunch Swiss chard, julienned

1/4 onion, chopped

1/4 green pepper, chopped

7 slices bacon, chopped

Box of bow tie pasta

Your favorite pasta sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

• Start big pot of water to boil for the pasta and cook pasta as directed on package and drain.  
• In a hot skilled, cook bacon, onion and peppers until crisp and done.  Turn heat down and add the julienned Swiss chard, stir carefully, then place a lid on pan to wilt the greens.  
• Add pasta sauce to bacon/greens and heat
• Add pasta sauce mixture to the pasta mixing well.

Sprinkle with Parmesan, if desired.   Serves 6-8 people.

RECENTLY CROCHETED

Though this block looks kind of wonky right now, it is one of the Scripture Afghan blocks I've been working on.  This one is called Wheat Sheaf.

Like the other scripture blocks, I researched to see how many times wheat sheaf is in the Bible.

I couldn't find wheat sheaf, but I did find wheat 52 times.   The scripture that stood out to me was Psalm 147:14

He maketh piece in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

This verse speaks to me of protection and providing of needs.

Y oh Y...

Hello,

Today was one of those days, when part of my job was on hold, due to an employee being let go and my covering part of their duties. I do not like the feeling accomplishing nothing. I thought I could remedy that feeling by working in my sewing area today, but then remembered having a quilt guild meeting this evening.

I have been procrastinating, of late, with my sewing and crocheting projects.  Today, I received and email for Get Organized Now and one of its main topics was on procrastination.  Go figure.  :)   Get Organized Now is full of useful tips to organize your stuff and your life.  If you have not been to Get Organized Now, check it out at http://www.getorganizednow.com

I called the Singer Co., in order to try to get a manual for my 1920 Singer... "Hello, thank you for calling the Singer Sewing Company, all of our customer service representatives are busy at this time, customers are served in the order their call is received.... you have 19 people ahead of you."  (or something like that), I hang up and try again in a few minutes..."you have 21 people ahead of you."   Oh bother... so I sent them an email instead.   Still waiting on a response. 

I have pictures to share with you.  I took them at the quilt guild meeting this evening.

D. gave a class on Y Seams.  Very informative and now I think I can tackle the Y Seam.  I've always been a little intimidated by trying to sew the Y Seam.   She gave us printed instructions and also fabric diamonds to practice with.

Then we had "Show & Tell"

R. and S. brought these scrappy quilt tops for love or lap quilts.  I think they are pretty.

They also brought this larger quilt top.  It is hand pieced.   I believe they brought it from a older family member they visited. They are wanting to get it hand quilted.

L. brought in this colorful quilt.  It was made for her grandson.  It is quilted with vertical lines 1/4" apart.

J. cross stitched this this little beauty and then added borders.

B. brought this cute quilt.  She hand stitched the embroidered snowmen blocks. 

K. brought this pretty love/lap quilt.

M. and M. brought these three pretty scrappy love quilts.

Here's a nifty idea... a ruler with a small groove, diagonally, to keep the ruler from wobbling when setting on a seam when cutting or trimming up a block.
