Lazy....

Hello all!

Isn't it great to have the weekend free.  You don't have to punch a time clock or watch the clock, as you eat your lunch.

Well, that's one of the things I like about my weekends.   My schedule is very flexible and I usually fly by the seat of my pants, on what I'm going to do for the day.

This morning, I started a pot of coffee - haven't done that in a while here at home, then looked through some cookbooks.

My husband was out for a walk and my kids were still in bed.  The house was quiet and peaceful.  When my coffee finished brewing, I fixed a bowl of cereal and took my time.    I finally decided to wake the kids up, a little after 11:00 a.m.    So, yes, I slept in this morning too.  :)

It was pretty much a lazy day, though I did sew while my potato soup was cooking.   The rest of the time, I just read a book or took a nap.

Like I said.... LAZY!!  :)

WEEKLY RECIPE

Potato Soup
8-10 Potatoes, peeled and cubed
3 Carrots, peeled and sliced
1 Celery stick, sliced
1/4 - 1/2 onion, diced
Salt to taste
Black Pepper to taste
Garlic powder to taste.   If you have fresh garlic, use 1 -2 cloves

Peel, wash and cut veggies as directed.   Place in big pot or dutch oven, add water or broth so that the veggies are covered.  Cook until the veggies are tender, then add a basic slurry to thicken.

Slurry = 1/4 cup flour, salt, pepper, 1/2 cup milk, whisked together.

After dipping it in a bowl, add a dollop of sour cream and stir it in.

You can also add, crumbled crisp bacon on top, this is a tasty addition.  :)

My answer to yesterday's question: Yes.

Lo and Behold...

Hello!

This evening, I was working away and then lo and behold, right in the middle of it all, I found a block that was totally opposite in every way from all the other blocks.

The Correct Way
The one to rip out
So the seam ripper came out and I ripped out every seam, including the applique.  Then resewed the block the correct way.

It seems that no matter what, I tend to always wind up ripping out a seam or two... this time it was four seams and an applique.

Live and learn they say... I had some music on and believe it or not, I was able to rip out the seams, stress free.  :)

I want to close with a quote from "Quilted Hearts"...

Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal. ~ Hannah Moore

I was seeing my backwards block as an obstacle, but then realized, it was just a jog in the path I was on.  I just had to rip on through and straighten it out, to keep moving forward.

Have a great weekend!!

Sunny Days...

Hello!   Hope this finds you doing well.  :)

This evening my husband and I visited a friend.  Someone I haven't seen or talked to in about 6 months and it was good to see him and his wife.  My friend's name is Mike.
Mike's initials in stained glass clip art to honor his new found art work.
He is now into stained glass.   I didn't know he was so crafty.  :)     I don't know about you, but I like stained glass and Mike does very nice work.   Who knew?!  :)

He showed us around his shop and some of his finished pieces, and I was impressed.    It was good to hear him talk about his craft, I can tell he is really into it.  :)

His shop is called Sunny Days Glass Art and you can check his website out at http://www.sunnydaysglassart.com/index.html

Thanks goodness it's Thursday....

Last week flew by, this week it seems hasn't as much, even though it seems I get busier each week at work.
I set a personal record this morning....

"Bye Babe, I love you!"..... "Bye Mom, I love you!".....

"I love you too..." I said groggily, as I rolled over in bed... then it dawned on me, it was 7:30 a.m!!   I had to be at work by 8:00 a.m.

My feet hit the floor and I prayed "Father above, help me get to work on time!"... Believe it or not He did.

I showered, washed my hair, applied makeup, etc.... all the things a girl's got to do to get ready, even got my shoes tied and made it to work on time!

Let me tell you, I haven't moved that fast in forever!  :)

 Talk about getting woke up!!

Have you slept in like that before?

 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well, I guess that's it for tonight.    Here's hoping you have a Fabulous Friday!!

God bless and keep you,
Sonia

I was a cool day...

Surprise!!    When I arrived home after work, I saw three small cantaloupes on the counter.   They came from David's garden!  I thought he had only the one cantaloupe, we ate last week.

Tonight was a quilt guild meeting night.  We had a good program, designing a quilt top by using paint chip samples for rooms, like you find at Lowe.s, for example.   The sample room I helped design for, was a rustic looking room.   Lanora (my partner in this crime) and I decided a landscape quilt would look good in the room.  So using the paint chip samples, we came up with a design of a sunset in the mountains, with a large gnarly tree in the foreground.

On the way home I was inspired to try to make the landscape quilt in small scale, just to see how it turns out.

I need to finish my big quilt first though... so I will have to wait a week or two.  :)   I'll post pics when I have them.  :)

Today, was a cool day.  It was wonderful!
It felt like Autumn for sure.  :)

Here's a little poem I wrote about Autumn, in 2002.

Microsoft clip art
A Night in Autumn
The night is cool,
Dark sky, clear.
Stars shining,
Moon so near,
Breath white in the air,
A peaceful time.
Listen to the night sounds.
Crickets play their melody,
Serenading the earth to sleep.

Nobody Knows...

Today, I received a pleasant surprise.  One of the ladies at work brought me a cutting off a rose bush.  She has several of this particular kind and told me about them, earlier in the year.    I'm not sure what they are called, but I'm going to find out.  :)

They are very pretty and have a pretty smell.   I'm thinking of maybe planting some of these in the Spring.

TODAY'S QUESTION

What do you hope your life will be like in 20 years?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well, I'm cutting it short tonight.  I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday.

I'd like to end with a quote from Dale Carnegie ~ One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living.  We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon - instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside or windows today.

So having quoted Mr. Carnegie, remember to slow down and enjoy the beauty of God's creation.  :)

God bless and keep you,
Sonia

I'm Glad I Recieved It...

Hello!   I trust you have had a great weekend thus far.

Today has been a day of relaxation for me.   I put the pork roast on this morning, and it smelled yummy, cooking all day in the crock pot.   The recipe is posted below.

Microsoft clip art
Then I wound up watching a scary movie with my kids.    The crazy thing is, the info on the TV wasn't correct for the movie.  So I don't know the name of the movie, but it was good.   Not too scary but scary enough, if you know what I mean.  The suspense was very good.  :)

This evening I worked on a top for a lap quilt.   The pieced center was a quilt top that was donated to me.  It wasn't finished and not squared off.  So I cut it down and squared it off, then added the borders to make it the right size for a lap quilt.   I think it turned out very pretty.  I like the colors.   I'm not sure who did the pieced work, but I'm glad I received it to use.  It will brighten someones day in the local nursing home.

TODAY'S QUESTION

What's your favorite commercial?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WEEKLY RECIPE

Sonia's Pulled Pork Sandwich
1 - 2 1/2 lb. Pork Roast
Salt
Black Pepper
Greek Seasoning (I use Cavender's All Purpose Greek seasoning)
1/4 large Onion
1/2 Green Pepper
1 Celery stalk
1 - 14.5 oz can of Chicken Broth

Thaw the pork roast, if frozen.   Rinse the roast off thoroughly.   On both sides, salt, black pepper and Greek seasoning.   Place in a crock pot.   Cut up onion, green pepper and celery in chunks and place in the crock pot with the roast.   Pour the chicken broth in around the roast.   Cook on high for 5 hours, then turn down to low and cook for 2 more hours.

When the roast is done, put in on a platter, cover and let it rest for thirty minutes.  Then, shred the roast with two forks.   Now it's ready to put on a bun and enjoy!

I added coleslaw and barbecue sauce to my sandwich and it was delicious! :)

Well, I guess that's if for today.

Have a wonderful Sunday!!

God bless and keep you,
Sonia
