To Try Out

I had the house to myself for a few hours this evening. What did I do with my time?

basting stitches
I basted a quilt.

Last night I pieced a backing for it so that I could baste it tonight.

ready to baste
This quilt will be used at our quilt show this coming weekend.  It will be a place for individuals to try out hand quilting.

I've been working on a small afghan to use when I get chilled during my Bible time in the early morning.   I hope to have it done later this week to share.

Did see the blood moon eclipse last night?  I went out to try to get a picture, but the clouds were getting in the way and my camera isn't strong enough to get the moon when it is darkened red.  This morning it sure looked big, low on the western horizon.   If you have followed my blog for very long you know I think the moon is a beautiful part of of God's creation.  It was certainly a beautiful sight as I drove to work this morning.

I guess that's it for now.

Hope all is going well with you.

Hugs,
Sonia

Blessings

9/23/15
This morning was cool and the world was waking when I left for work.  I was greeted by birds singing and a cow in a nearby pasture mooed as if to say "good morning".

9/24/15
I was greeted by frogs this morning, just singing away.  On my way to work I saw one of the prettiest sunrises I've seen in a very long time.  I was so excited about it, I called home, woke David up (not meaning to) and asked him to take a picture for me.

This week has just been full of beautiful skies.

Fall is in the air and I'm feeling it for sure as is evident of late.  This time of year is when my mind is in overdrive on quilting, sewing and crafty projects.

Autumn wind chime

my front door
I plan on decorating the inside of home for Autumn this weekend.

One last thing before I go.  I want to share with you a garage sale find.  Friday, one of the ladies I work with was having a garage sale with her mom and grandparents.  She and her mom love to scrapbook and they decided it was time to cull some stuff out.   Here's what I found.

  1. set of six glass Christmas ornaments
  2. scrapbook magazine
  3. two albums
  4. two packs scrapbook papers
  5. pack of autumn leaves
  6. two packs of decorative ribbon
  7. two packs of rub off decorations
All items, except the magazine and the ornaments, were unopened packages.

total cost = $10  I thought that was a good find.

Blessings come in all types of ways. You just have to take time to notice.  :)

Hugs,
Sonia

Rainbow colors and Spider lilies

Yesterday my dad wrote his name for the first time since he was infected with guillain-barre syndrome on June 4, 2015.  He was able to stand very briefly on his own too.  These two small things are big accomplishments for him.  Every small improvement is a step closer to his recovery.

I've started sorting out my scrap fabrics for Audre's scrappy rainbow quilt.  I will collect them as I go and hopefully I will have enough to start on her quilt in the next few month's.  I'm thinking it will be after Christmas before I can get started it though, as this time of year always gets very busy for me.

I know fall is near when I see the Lycoris radiata plants blooming.  Otherwise known as the spider lily.  I have called them naked ladies in the past but have recently learned this type is the spider lily.

As the spider lilies bloom and the weather gets cooler, my project list grows. It has grown with quilting projects, fleece blankets, bookmarks, painted figurines, etc.

Also with the cooler morning temps my head has started feeling stuffy, like it's going to explode if I don't do something soon.  This afternoon, my left ear started hurting so when I got home I took some olive leaf extract and drank hot tea. That seemed to help. I will continue the olive leaf  until this is kicked out and it usually is within a few days if I catch it soon enough.

...  I started writing this blog about 2 hours ago, then got side tracked.  Guess that means I need to sign off.  :)

Until next time,
Sonia

Quilts, etc.

Took a little road trip today, complete with road construction, a beautiful car and a symbol reminding how God watches over us.

My friend Kathy and I went to a quilt show in Eufaula, OK.  All the quilts were beautiful and there were vendors, a quilt auction of antique quilts, a tea room for lunch, and a quilt giveaway.  All the proceeds went to "God's Helping Hands".   I took a total of 70 pictures but I will just share a few with you.  Here are some of my favorites.  You can see several more on the Quilts, etc. page.

I bought a set of mini rulers and a couple of magazines full of quilt patterns for the holidays.

It was a good day.  :)

Just thought I'd share with you a quilt show coming up.  The guild I belong to is having its annual quilt show on Frontier Day.
