Just catching up...

"rain drops keep falling..."

Like several areas in the country we are getting a lot of rain in Arkansas.  I have changed my driving route to work because of flooding roads.
"water, water, everywhere..."

Some good has come out of it though, I think the drought we've been in may be over for the time being.  :)

My marigolds and petunia's are blooming too.

The small quilt I've been working is finished and given away.  I tell more about it on the "Quilts, etc." tab.

I have a new nephew. Precious lil' Gabriel was born Monday.

I think that catches me up for now.  :)

Road trip...

We had good weather for traveling.   I got a couple of pics of the sunrise.

Got a few of mist rising in the mountains, and a pic of some elk.

I took some crochet along to try to catch up on some things.  Here's a baby car seat afghan I made.

So far, my week off has been good and relaxing though tiring, but it's a good tired.  :)

Well, I'm going to try to get some sleep.

Sonia

A little old, a little new

As of 4:00 p.m. on May 15, I've been on vacation.  Some of you know how much that means to me, but for those who don't... it means, no stress, no tension, no dread, just relaxation, contentment, spending time with my husband and daughter, quilting, crafting, reading, napping, flea marketing, etc.

So, as of 4:00 p.m. Friday it began.  I stopped by a little antique shop in the town I work in.  It had a realtor's sale sign on the property.   It is for sale and they were having a sale and will continue to until all the items are gone.  From what I gather it is something like "the owner bit off more than they can chew" kind of thing.  I found a couple of things to bring home.  Then on Saturday, we went flea marketing as a family.  Where I also found more things to bring home.  :)

Here are some of the treasures I found.

A vintage pie cutter/crimper.  I will use it as decoration in my kitchen.

A cute little flower basket pin.  I will use it on a handbag or tote bag.

I also found a set of crochet pattern books and a book of inspiration.

There were  a couple of things I thought were cool, but did not bring them home with me.

The first thing is a vintage garlic/fruit press. then there was this cool iron, from when they started adding steam capability.

Some of the things I've been wanting to do got done. There were some items of mine that I wanted to re-purpose.

The first thing is the pretty bottle I have had or some time.   It had some flowers in it that my children have made over the years.  I moved to flowers to a vase with dried flowers, cleaned the bottle, bought some cork stoppers, then filled the bottle with oil.  So now it is still beautiful but also useful.

Then, I had a vase, full of glass stones and lights.  It's an idea I had a few months ago, but after using it a time or two for a light. I decided I needed to change it.  It got too hot when lit.  I finally came up with this arrangement.  I'm very happy with it.

I also re-purposed this big canning jar.  It is a 2 quart jar.  It was a decorative item with pickled veggies.  It was old and time to redo.  So all the contents were emptied out, the jar cleaned, the lid covered with decorative duck tape and then it was fill with ribbon.

This morning I was looking out my front window and saw this little beauty on the street and snuck out and took this pic.

Then I had a surprise.  A package arrived.

I won a drawing I had entered a few weeks ago with Paper Pumpkin.  There were ink pads, stamps and all the paper goods to make envelopes, cards, tags, and bows.  I'm sure it will be put to good use soon.  :)

We'll be making a road trip tomorrow and I plan to do a little crocheting on the way, so hopefully I will have something to show when we get back.

Sonia

Death wish?...

Hi, let me begin with... I do not profess to be a good driver, but after what I experienced this morning, I'm not going to be so hard on myself anymore.

Have you ever been on the road with someone who you are convinced has a death wish?

I'm pretty sure I shared the road with someone like that this morning on HWY 23, traveling north to Ozark, AR.

As normal, I was passed by a few vehicles, no big deal, it happens most mornings.  As I traveled on down the road, I looked in my rear view mirror and some distance away I saw this small car passing every vehicle behind me.  I'm thinking the car was traveling close to 80 mph as it quickly caught up with me.

The driver of said car got close and rode my bumper for a little ways, and then proceeded to pass me in a no passing zone in a curve.  Now if you've traveled western Arkansas very much you know that you can't see around most curves due to the hills and trees.  This car was so close, when it passed and then moved back in the lane in front of me, it would have clipped the front right of my car had I been going a mile or two faster.  I can tell you for sure it was black in color... but it moved so fast that's about all I noticed.

The vehicles that had passed me earlier in my drive were a little distance ahead of me, I'd say about quarter to half mile ahead.  I watched the black car catch up with them and then try to pass all three vehicles in a no passing zone on a hill.  I started slowing down because I knew that car was going meet another car on that hill and if they did it was going to be bad.  One of the three vehicles it was trying to pass had to apply its brakes to let the car in as there was oncoming traffic at that hill.

That little black car was flying down the road. I hope whoever was in that car made it safely to their destination.  Not only were they putting themselves in danger, they were putting their passengers and everyone else on the road in danger.

I know that there are times you don't want to see a police officer, like when those pretty blue lights are flashing behind you, but I sure wish there was one the road this morning.

Mercy!

A good day...

Today was a rainy day.

It was a good day to chill out... so I fixed myself a hot mocha

and sat down to hand sew the last of the appliques for the quilt I gave you a sneak peek at in the last blog.

Overall it was a good day to catch up on some sewing... I pinned a pair of pants and a matching jacket to alternate. I'm going to baste them and try them on again before I stitch them up on my sewing machine. I also got a pack of foam to redo my lap desk for my laptop.

As the day proceeded my head became more and more messed up with allergies/sinus pressure... whatever you want to call it.  So I took a sinus pill, and if it goes like normal I will be out for the count pretty soon and will be in a mental fog for a  few hours when I wake up in the morning.  It's weird how over the counter stuff effects me worse than anything I've ever had prescribed for sinus junk.  So I thought I'd better type up my blog before it sets in, there's no telling what I might type under the influence of sinus meds.

To all the mom's who may be reading...

Shoo Fly

Stitching here and seeing that... shoo fly and don't come back.

Here's a sneak peak at what I'm working on at the moment.  This block is called "shoo fly".

I have the main portion of this quilt pieced and am now working on applique pieces to add to it.  The new blooms in my flower garden have been an inspiration for this quilt.

I've updated the My Walk tab.  Check it out, I share a hallelujah moment.  :)

Check out this cool pic I got of a shadow on the wall.  The shadow if from the angel wing begonia's hanging on the front porch.

Have a great week!

Hugs,
Sonia
