Howling and Singing

I missed my morning time in the Scriptures because I wasn't focused and was running late. So I took my Bible to work with me to read on my lunch break.

As I sat in my car, eating my lunch, rain gently fell giving a rhythmic beat on top of my car and I enjoyed watching a few pretty little birds play in the rain.

The rain eventually stopped and I lowered the car windows to let the cool breeze blow in.  As I read my Bible, I heard all kinds of birds singing and chattering among themselves.  I even heard what sounded like an owl hooting.  It was very peaceful.

Then the blare of an ambulance's siren began to wail as it raced down the street that runs along the parking lot where I was parked.  The dogs in the surrounding neighborhood began to howl and they sounded so sorrowful as if they knew something bad had happened.

I said a quick prayer for the emergency response crew and the people they were going to help.

As the wail of the sirens faded the dogs stopped howling, I started writing all this down on paper and the birds continued to sing.

Music to my ears...

I love the sound of rolling thunder and rainfall.  It is music to my ears.

We had a heavy shower move through this afternoon and I had to go outside.  I can't help but step outside when it's raining to listen to the symphony.

Tar trails and dandelions

I woke up hungry.  So after my morning time in the Bible, I decided to make pancakes. I had bananas, raisins, and pecans... so I came up with a recipe for banana pancakes.

These are hearty pancakes and I made them big, using 1/2 cup of batter for each pancake.  Two pancakes will fill you up.

Hearty Banana Pancakes
by Sonia Parham
  • 3 bananas mashed, they should be ripe but not over ripe
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup pecans, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all purpose white flour
  • 2 heaping teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk, or the amount needed for the batter consistency you like.
In a bowl combine mashed bananas, egg and brown sugar.  In another bowl combine flours, baking powder and salt.  Add the banana mixture to the flour mixture, add the milk and blend well. Stir in the pecans and the raisins.  Cook the pancakes on medium heat until done.

Try out different toppings to use.  My daughter ate hers with nothing on them, my husband tried a little strawberry jam on the bottom pancake and a little syrup on the top one.  I ate my pancakes with a little peanut butter and strawberry jam.  They are yummy.  :)

I got a few pics this week that I thought were good.  You never know what I might take a picture of,  new blooms, what most people call weeds, tar trails in the road...

Went to a flea market today and had a good find.  A pattern book for quilting with the folded star, for $0.50 and a book on gifts from a jar.  It is like new, with the raffia, fabric and all the printed recipe cards. I got it for $3.50.

PS, I updated the Quilts tab.

Echos of Friendship

This wall hanging is in honor of the friendships I have.  I was inspired by a card of encouragement I recently received from one of my friends.

An update and a peek of what's to come...

finally finished... that is what I can say about the small quilt I've been working on.

That same day, in the evening, the moon was beautiful in the sky with a halo around it.

The next day I rearranged my sewing room a little more.  I took the two tables that were turned, sitting the northeast corner of the room, to the center of the north wall so that both tables can be used for sewing.

I like this new setup better.  I can have both of my machines set up for sewing and now have room to set up my Serger when I need to use it.

I have started a small wall hanging.   A friend gave me an inspirational card and I thought the picture would make a pretty wall hanging.

Here's a peek at the start of it.  I have the fabrics I want to use picked out. I was working on the butterfly wings this evening to see how I would do them.  I will most likely cut out wings that look more like the Monarch's than use the wing shapes I already have.

Until next time, have a great week!

Just in time...

The other day I saw dandelions and thought "so the war begins, between weeds and man."  But that thought was quickly overtaken by the other signs of Spring.

Like this cute little squirrel scampering about.

Then these little beauties bloomed just in time for Easter.

New blooms, new life.

Like when you believe in Jesus Christ.  Your life is renewed, you are made new in Christ.

Take time to remember the reason we celebrate Easter.  It's not about the bunny, the colored eggs, or those cute little peeps.

It's about the Son of God, Jesus Christ.  Who loves us so much He sacrificed His life on a rugged crossed. Who died for our sins.  Who laid in a tomb for three days, then conquered death, rising again completely justified.

It's all about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the great thing is, He's coming again.   Are you ready?
