What catches my eye...

Good morning!

It's the last week of August, that means we only have...

Christmas Countdown

If you are creating your Christmas gifts this year, are you on schedule?

I'm not.  Yikes!

I'll get done on time.

I have to believe that, I will get done on time.  :)

Sometimes, I will take my camera along just in case something catches my eye.  This weekend it happened to be cows and hay fields.

Last week, on one of my lunch breaks, I discovered another flea market type shop.  A pack of 4 1/2 x 61/2" scrapbook papers and a 36" string of beads caught my eye.

This weekend I went to Hobby Lobby in search of fabric to coordinate with my Hoffman fat quarter.  I also found a pendant to go with the beads I found earlier in the week.

The turquoise and gold fabrics caught my eye.

I think they are a pretty good match for the Hoffman fat quarter.    I'm thinking of making a table runner with it.   I have to get it done for the December quilt guild meeting.

I am now working on a baby afghan and hope to have a picture of it later in the week to show.

I'm still working, or not, on the Log Cabin quilt.  It seems all these "little projects" keep cropping up and my Log Cabin quilt is getting pushed to the back burner.  I had originally thought I would hand sew it, but I think I am going to have to use my sewing machine, if I want to get it done by Christmas.

Well, I guess I better sign off.  My laundry is almost done.  I need to get it folded and on hangers, then get ready for work.

Have a great day!

God bless and keep you,
Sonia

Jewel in the sky...

I'm going to try to catch up a little bit... just a little.  :)

Today was "one of those days".  One of the ladies at work suggested ice cream...and before I knew it there was a bucket of ice cream with chocolate syrup and a jar of caramel sauce.

Yes, this chick had a bowl of ice cream with caramel sauce.   I got busy and the ice cream melted a little but it was like having a vanilla caramel shake.  YUMMY!

After getting my vanilla caramel buzz, I was ready to face the rest of the afternoon.

Yesterday the Logan County PieceMakers had our monthly guild meeting.   Our program consisted of preparing items for the upcoming Quilt Congress.

We pressed fabric...

We cut fabric...

We bagged 5" charm squares...

and we bagged jelly rolls...

When I left, as I stepped out the building going to my car, I saw this beautiful jewel in the sky and snapped a picture.

Then this evening, my hubby comes in tells me the moon was very orange.  By the time I got out to take a picture it had lightened up.

Beginning of the week...

Beginning of the week...

A great way to start the week is to gather with brothers and sisters in Christ.  That's what Sunday is for me.
A good jump start to the week ahead.

This morning my daughter and I started our week with our new church family, First Baptist of Branch, AR.

I think it's going to be a good week.

How do you start your week?

RECIPE

My daughter turns 17 this week.   She will be in band practice, from 4-8 pm on her birthday and I will be at work until 6 pm.  So we all decide to celebrate her birthday early.  She didn't want a cake, but she wanted a banana pudding.

David made her a banana pudding using pound cake in place of the vanilla wafers.  It was yummy!

1 bunch of bananas - peeled and sliced in rounds
1 pound cake - sliced in thin layers
2 small boxes of regular banana pudding - following the recipe on the box

Layer pound cake, bananas, and pudding to the top of your container.   Chill in refrigerator for several hours to overnight.

After lunch we had the banana pudding then I went and laid down for a banana pudding induced nap.

I woke up from my nap about an hour later.  I heard a rumbling sound, like a motorcycle starting, but it was muffled by the windows.  Then I heard a loud rumble overhead and I knew the sound I heard was not made by mortal man, but by the Master of the winds clapping His hands.

Sure enough, not too long after the rain came.  What a glorious blessing from above.

Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for He hath given you the former rain moderately, and He will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. ~Joel 2:23

August... already?

The first day of August...can you believe it?

This year has flown by and it seems each year it flies by faster than the last.

I think the reason it has hit me so hard this year is that my daughter (my youngest) is turning 17 this month and starting her senior year of high school.  It seems like it was just yesterday that my son graduated high school, but he has been out for a while and graduated college this year.

Then top it off with Christmas being only 20 weeks and 3 days away and only 74 available days to get my Christmas projects and gift done.  Goodness!

I usually go into what I call a "nesting mode", where I bake more, sew more and craft more.  It usually happens in late summer or early fall, but I need it to kick in earlier this year or I may not get everything done on time.

So, to help myself out, I have started a list of "To Do's".  Do you ever do that and if so what motivates you to get it done?
