As promised...

Hi again.

As promised my banana pudding recipe is below.

It rained today, which is a blessing.  The temps have cooled down from 105° to 76° at the present.  I think it is still lightly raining outside this evening.

I read, after beginning, that one should not make a meringue on a rainy or humid day... oops!  I thought well, I may as well try... I'm in an air conditioned house... maybe it will be dry enough.

Well, I went ahead and made the pudding on the stove top and then topped the whole thing with the meringue and baked it.    I think it turned out okay. :)

I'm letting it cool as I type.

Weekly Recipe
Old Fashioned Banana Pudding

1 bunch of bananas, well ripened and sliced into rounds
2 bags of vanilla wafers
4 egg whites
2 cups sugar
2 large boxes of vanilla pudding (to be cooked on the stove top)
6 cups milk

In a large oven safe bowl or dish, layer vanilla wafers and sliced bananas.

In a large bowl (metal, copper or glass - do not use plastic), whip the egg whites until they form peaks (use an electric beater, as it is too much work by hand) adding the sugar by tablespoons as the peaks form. (usually 1/4 cup sugar to each egg white, if you want to use more egg whites).

Cook the pudding mix and milk on the stove per directions on package.

Pour the hot pudding over the cookie and banana layers.  Top with the meringue.  Bake in oven at 350° F for 20 to 30 minutes (until the meringue is browned and done).

Remove from oven and let cool before serving.

What's been going on?

Hello... it's been a bit since I last wrote.

As I sit here typing on my lunch break, the sound of happy voices in the hallway is a good sound.  It is a sound of a renewed spirit in the workforce.   A lot of changes have happened and I'm sure there are more to come, but it seems spirits are up with a new hope and outlook on our future.  Management has provided lunch today with grilled burgers and all the fixings.

A couple of days ago someone gave away a box full of bananas.  Needless to say I took a bunch home with me.  I plan to make an old fashioned banana pudding this evening and will post the recipe later on tonight.  It will be the first time I have made meringue and cooked a banana pudding in the oven.  Wish me luck!

I trust all has gone well for you, since I last wrote.

Whew, what a week!

Whew, what a week!

Truly blessed but honestly worn out. :)

Hello,

It's been a while since I was last here.  I've been busy with Vacation Bible School.  It started Sunday evening and tonight was the last night.  I'd leave work at 5pm or later and then be at church by 5:30... going until 8:30 or later.  I was with the children from 2 years to 4 years that have not finished pre-k.

Wow!  Those little tykes were very energetic. I was amazed at how they were able to answer questions asked after each Bible story.  At times it seemed like they were not listening, but when the questions were asked they fired off the correct answers without hesitation.

And the songs... we would have the songs playing in the background while they played and one of the 2 year old children sang some of the songs with me. :)

Well, I guess that's it for tonight... need to wind down and rest some.  Just wanted to share with you what's been going on this week.

Until next time,

God bless and keep you,
Sonia

Finally Finished!

Hello, we had a hope of some rain today, but I think it moved past us.  The temps were cooler today...in the 90s and upper 80s this evening.  We did get a few sprinkles yesterday.  I'm thankful for both.

This afternoon I finished the baby afghan I've been working on.  I finished it 10 minutes before the evening service at church.  Luckily I only live 3-4 minutes away, so I made in on time... pretty much.  :)

This little afghan is made from super bulky baby blanket yarn.  It is so soft!

Here is a close up of the yarn.

Here is the finished product.

My car is out of commission. I tried cranking it and it made a RuRn sound and nothing happened.  My battery is fully charged.  David thinks it may be the starter.  So... the thing will be back in the shop once again... thankfully it is still under warranty.

I hope your weekend  went well and wish you an awesome Monday. :)

Help A Child...

Hello, I trust you had an enjoyable 4th of July.

I want to share with you an opportunity to show some love.   Like Project Linus, I have learned of a new endeavor to make quilts for children in need. Check it out below.

Well, the week is wrapping up and I'll be going back to work on Monday.  My week off has been full of  OSHA training and flea marketing.  I know that is a weird combination, but that is pretty much what I've done, other than the little bit of canning and crocheting.

Today, I found a shoe box of quilt blocks for $2.50... most of them were fans.  I also found a vintage egg separator and added it to my shelf with a couple of vintage whisks.

I guess that's all I have tonight.

Have a great Saturday!

God bless and keep you,
Sonia

You Never Know...

Hi again.

Had an enjoyable day with the family.  We went flea marketing.

I found a Taste of Home cookbook, I don't have, so I snatched it up. :)

Then David found this little phone table and I thought is would work great on my side of the sofa.  Got it home, set it next to the sofa and its the right height.  The emergency phone fits in it nicely and I have room for my "blessings" journal and my lap top on the shelf under the phone shelf.   A patriotic crocheted doily will go on top.

You never know what you might see, while flea marketing...  Today I saw something that I had to take a picture of and share.  I came across some canes, in a crock and one of the canes had a real animal's foot on it.  I'm serious, it was hairy.  At least it looked real.

Earlier, I promised to post the Recipe of the week when I returned home.  You can find it at http://aquiltingsouthpawsthoughts.blogspot.com/p/give-aways.html

I had a nice surprise in the mail over the weekend.
I won patterns in a giveaway Crafty Stitchers had.

Here is what showed up in the mail.  I can't decide which pattern to start with, but plan to try one soon.

We have had two wild fires close to home in the past week.  We are under a burn ban and fireworks ban, so I won't have any fireworks to share with you this year, none the less, I wish you a safe and enjoyable 4th of July.

God bless and keep you,
Sonia

Dream Green...

Hello,

Getting ready to go on a road trip with the family... just wanted to catch up on what's been going on.

My week has started out pretty calm and quiet, thus far.  :)

Canned a little salsa... will probably can more this week, though I'm thinking of making vegetable soup from the garden veggies and canning it.

My angel wing begonia now has a few blooms, it's hard to get a good picture of them but here's one I took this morning.

This evening when I get home, I will post the recipe of the week.  This week it's a quick Hashbrown Scramble, that can be changed up to the taste of the day.  :)

I found, in one of my quilting supplies magazines, a batting made from recycled plastic bottles.  It's called Dream Green.  I'm thinking it would be a cool batting to use. Have you used it before and if so, what are your thoughts on it?

Well, that's it for now.   Until next time, have a great day!

God bless and keep you,
Sonia
